the Glocktail

Another incredible product from
Center of Mass LLC and Mike Gibson Manufacturing!

Rick Palmer (Center of Mass LLC) and Mike Gibson (MGM Targets) both showed up at the 2006 Idaho Glocks Only pistol match with a new feature on their guns - a beavertail for a Glock! If you've got normal hands, this doesn't mean anything to you, but if you have large (or fat hands or...) hands, or you just grip the gun particularly high, you've experienced what competitors affectionately refer to as Slide Bite.

It would have been only logical to expect that Rick's background (manufacturing some of the finest production and custom Kydex© holsters, magazine pouches, cell phone holsters, Leatherman "holsters" and anything else that can be thought of) would eventually take him to a product like this. Mike on the other hand builds the best steel targets in the country, so it is a bit of a stretch to think he'd come up with something like this, except for one thing - fat hands, and "the bite". Maybe that's the reason Rick's version was very well done and actually worked, and Mike's version was a piece of... plastic stuff.

thumbnail of blue GlockTailIn any case, they teamed up, and now YOU can buy a great accessory that actually works as advertised, and makes your gun look cool at the same time. They come in Glock Black, Royal Blue, and almost Fire Engine Red. The package includes the instructions (also below) and a piece of rubber tube that will hold the Glocktail on the gun.

The Glocktail can be purchased from a multitude of dealers, (sooner or later), but right now you can buy them directly from ComHolsters or MGM Targets. Toll free numbers are below. They sell for $17.95 + approximate shipping of $3 in the CONUS.

How do I install my Glocktail?

  1. Be sure the gun is unloaded.
  2. Be SURE the gun is unloaded.
  3. The easiest installation will be with the gun clamped in a padded vice, but you can get the rubber on without one.
  4. A helpful hint is to use a hair dryer on medium heat to warm the rubber.
  5. Slide/roll the rubber on to the grip. It will probably take both hands.
  6. Hold the GlockTail in place, on the pistol.
  7. Roll/slide the rubber up on to the GlockTail.
  8. If necessary, the long end of the GlockTail can be filed, sanded, or otherwise customized to your satisfaction. Be carefully to NOT put any notches on the GlockTail during the customization. While the GlockTail is an extremely durable product, as with anything, a notch may cause it to start to break. This is the only thing that will void the warranty.

An optional installation method is to use grip tape (skateboard tape) to hold the GlockTail in place. To make a great template, cover a piece of paper with some kind of tape (masking tape, or duct tape), and begin to slowly cut out a template. After your template is made (on the paper) trace it on to the grip tape. Be sure you get it right side up, in relation to the grippy side of the tape! If you do this enough times, you'll be able to do a "full wrap", with only one seam. Grip tape will take a little getting used to, but your hand will NOT slip, I don't care how wet it is!
